A comprehensive eye examination is a series of tests performed by a doctor of optometry in order to assess a patient's eye muscles, vision, and eye health . The examination may detect many preventable eye diseases ( such as glaucoma or macular degeneration) or signs of systemic diseases that can affect the eye ( such as diabetes, high blood pressure or Lyme disease)
Without early detection and proper treatment, many eye diseases can cause unnecessary and sometimes permanent loss of vision for Ontarians. A stand alone refraction or sight test can only measure a patient's prescription but does not detect undiagnosed eye diseases.
Should the need arise, we can refer you to the appropriate specialist when required.
Changes were made by the Ontario government to the eye care coverage as of November 1, 2004.
Children (0 - 19 years) - Covered for a full comprehensive eye exam once every 12 months.
Adults (aged 20 - 64 years) - No OHIP coverage (*some exceptions apply: medical coverage through a doctor's referral).
*Please call our office should you require clarification.
Seniors (65 years and older)- Covered for a full comprehensive eye exam once every 12 months.
Medical Exceptions: Certain medical conditions like diabetes, glaucoma, cataract, retinal disease, strabismus, etc., are also covered for a full eye exam every 12 months.
Comprehensive eye examination fees not covered by OHIP, are due on the date of the exam.
*NEW* REVOLUTIONARY TECHNOLOGY FOR RETINAL DISEASE DETECTION TO PATIENTS
An optomap image provides the practitioner with a tool to help discover retinal disease, and assist in the diagnosis of eye conditions – and potentially other health conditions – early. It also enables the practitioner to effectively determine the next course of action. Early detection of any retinal abnormality may lead to earlier and safer treatments and in many cases prevent vision loss. An optomap should be performed annually regardless of symptoms, thereby allowing doctors to observe subtle changes occurring as their patient’s age.
For more information or to schedule an optomap exam, please contact us at 705-423-9370 or our direct booking line at 705-627-2051

We promote Professional Brand contact lenses and have complete access to many products. If you are a first time wearer or an experienced long time wearer looking for better performance, we can help. It is recommended that children have their first eye examination by the age of six months, and a second visit is at the age of 3 years, prior to starting school. For children between the ages of 4 and 19, a yearly examination is advised, which is covered by OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Program). This allows the possibility of early detection of disease and abnormalities, increasing the ability to treat possible condition(s). Yearly eye examinations are important because as they grow, children’s eyes continue to change.
Fact: Children do not have anything to compare their vision to. Therefore no matter a child's vision, they believe that the way they see the world is how it is, possibly blurry and unclear until their vision is corrected.
